St John’s Church at Hooe was established by the Oxford movement based at Keble College, Oxford. It is a Grade II listed simple early mid-gothic building. Originally built as a parish church in its own right in 1855, it has been a part of the parish of Plymstock and Hooe since 2006.

The church is built from local limestone rubble with limestone dressings and forms part of a complex with the church hall, which was added in 1986 and Church House, which is now privately owned.

The main church building has a double bell turret housing two bells located at the West end of the roof. St John’s has a large, closed churchyard, which has a large area dedicated to Commonwealth graves.A prayer garden at the rear of the Church was dedicated a few years ago.
